We were recently asked to put together a list of spaces and organisations in the West Midlands which offer making facilities. Here’s what we came up with. If you think we have missed anything off, let us know and we will add it in.
Birmingham Printmakers: An artist-led organisation that provides printmaking facilities to its members.
Coventry Makerspace: A collaborative environment where people come together to make friends, learn new skills, and work on projects. We have evolved from the traditional makerspace to become a Pro-Maker facility, where you can access a full suite of tools and technology.
Fab Lab Ironbridge: Based at Enginuity the Fab Lab is open to anyone, offering a range of workshops, drop in sessions, structured training days and a Membership Scheme.
Fablab West Bromwich: based at Sandwell College they have a whole range of state-of-the-art digital manufacturing equipment, from 3D printers, precision laser cutters and moulding and milling equipment, through to electronic components, circuit boards, soldering irons and glue guns.
Fablab Coventry: a city centre resource, accessible to anyone. Coventry has a large industrial heritage; FabLab Coventry provides people of Coventry with the opportunity to turn ideas into reality.
Fizzpop: a member-run, member-funded and member-led workshop & studio where Birmingham’s maker community meets to share knowledge, tools and creativity.
Moseley and Kings Heath Shed: A development of the typical shed in the garden, in our ‘shed’ there is space, tools, equipment and materials, and of course there are people with knowledge, experience and skills which enables and encourages members to make, mend, re-purpose, or follow their own projects or hobbies.
Old Print Works: The CDT room has a range of tools for turning, milling, precision cutting, drilling, engraving and pyrography and offers CDT sessions for kids. In Balsall Heath, Birmingham.
Rope Press: Artist-led printing press, publisher and distributor who run a range of classes and workshops.
Some Cities Darkroom: offers a platform for self-expression where organisations, community groups and individuals can access affordable photography training and facilities.
